Culp Robert
Robert Culp was an actor, screenwriter, voice actor, and director. On TV, Culp co-starred with Bill Cosby on I Spy (1965–1968) as a secret agent. Earlier, he starred in Trackdown as Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman from 1957-1959. In the 1980s, he played FBI Agent Bill Maxwell on The Greatest American Hero, and later as Warren Whelan on Everybody Loves Raymond. He also co-starred on 2 episodes of Columbo. Films include PT-109, The Raiders, Sunday in New York, and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. He graduated from nearby Berkeley High School, where he was a pole vaulter and took second place at the 1947 CIF California State Meet.
Stern Otto
Otto Stern was a German-American physicist and Nobel laureate in physics. He was the second most nominated person for a Nobel Prize with 82 over the years 1925–1945, and ultimately winning in 1943. Stern completed his studies at the University of Breslau in 1912 with a doctoral dissertation in physical chemistry on the kinetic theory of osmotic pressure in concentrated solutions. Stern served in WWI doing meteorological work on the Russian front while still continuing his studies. In 1921 he became a professor at the University of Rostock which he left in 1923 to become director of the new Institut für Physikalische Chemie at the University of Hamburg. He left Germany for the US in the 30's. After Stern retired from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, he moved to Berkeley, California and was a regular visitor to the Physics colloquium at UC Berkeley.
Witter Dean 1
Dean Witter was an American businessman, stockbroker, and investor. Witter graduated from UC Berkeley in 1909, where he was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity, and a distinguished rower. After graduation, Witter worked as a salesman for Louis Sloss & Company. In 1914, Witter partnered with Charles Blyth to found Blyth, Witter & Co, a San Francisco-based brokerage. With his brother and cousin, Dean co-founded Dean Witter & Company in 1924. The company was highly successful and purchased a seat on the San Francisco Stock Exchange in 1928, and opening an office in New York and purchasing a seat on the New York Stock Exchange in 1929. Dean Witter survived the Wall Street crash of 1929, and the Great Depression, earning profits every year during the 1930s and into the 1940s. Dean Witter headed his company until his death in 1969.
