"Mike" Callaghan was an American politician, and the 23rd Governor of Nevada from 1971-79. Previously he was a teacher and boxing coach. From 1961-63, he was the chief probation officer and director of court services for Clark County. In 1964, President Johnson appointed him as the regional director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness. After 2 terms as governor, he became the executive editor of the Las Vegas Sun, and he was also the publisher of the Henderson Home News and Boulder City News. The Mike O'Callaghan Middle School, The Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital, and The Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge at Hoover dam was named after him.
