Many of his stories used the local area and its migrant farm workers as the backdrop. He is in the upper right of his mother's lot. As a kid, I spent a summer in his former house (now museum) at 222 Central in Pacific Grove.

Elaine Anderson was involved in stage productions, becoming a stage manager for the plays Oklahoma, and Othello starring Paul Robeson. She also appeared in A Night Of Adventure, and Seven Days Ashore. She was married to author John Steinbeck, from 1950 until his death. She became one of his biggest supporters for over 35 years, even after his death, editing a volume of his poems and showing off his awards to reporters.
