Luckily, what used to be on this side of the fence was moved since last time, and I got this unobstructed shot. The car and other remnants are part of the Motel 66 decor.
A train in the Barstow suburb of Lenwood.
The Dunes motel is done, too.
On the hill above Johnston's Corner.
This marker in Johnston's Corner details the historical significance of the old trail that became the National Trails Hwy and subsequently renamed Hwy 66.
The mail boxes at Johnston's Corner just to the left of the marker.
Across the street is Jiggs Ranch.
I waited for this train at Johnston's Corner. Unfortunately I had accidently nudged the camera dial into shutter priority, which was set for 1/125th sec - a bit slow. I did not notice for the next 30 shots or so...:-(
The Two Sixes sign near Hodge.
Across the street in Hodge.
I finally got ahead of that same train a few miles down the road in what was once called La Delta, just north of Oro Grande.
I was investigating a nice ranch area off the main road when I discovered this place.
I did not want to get much closer. Ostrich burgers, steaks and eggs are gaining popularity.
I'm back in Oro Grande, not far from the train cabooses from a few days earlier.
More dead buildings...
Not sure what else was here.
This is a technically poor shot but I like it.
Faith Ceramics in Oro Grande.
A welded sculpture in Oro Grande.
American Welding in Oro Grande.
This is the Route 66 museum in Victorville, not far from Oro Grande. Beware, I'm in a 'fisheye' mood.
A '50's diner display.
This trailer kit cost about $50, fifty years ago.
The Green Spot Motel a few blocks away is a famous landmark. The outhouse display is a nice touch.
Miles Mahan's Half Acre of memorabilia was located a few miles away in Apple Valley.
In the old days, Burma Shave signs lined the side of the road, precisely spaced to deliver the multi-part message in about 15 seconds.
An old Dyna-Vision diagnostic machine.
Joan of Arc church.
This Veteran's Memorial was in a bad location.
Santa Fe Trading Company on the left. Not sure about the righthand building.
This was an 'odd' combination.
Though the historic building is a bit bland in reality.
The Antique Mall was on both sides of the street.
A boarded-up storefront.
This used to be a USO hall.
It's now the Center for the Arts and needs a sign repair.
No ATM at this Bank of America.
Old Victor School.
Coming down the Cajon Pass.
1,358 miles of bugs.
First of two...The End!
